Calendar of Events for St. Augustine and the area

St. Augustine has many exciting events and entertainment venues to select from
including events and entertainment from the surrounding area to include Jacksonville,
Daytona Beach, and Gainesville. We know that many visitors to the St. Augustine
area plan to stay for several days, weeks, or months and for that reason, The
Chronicle has put together the most comprehensive listing of event and enter-
tainment venues in Northeast Florida.

Let’s start with St. Augustine! Some good overall calendars are Oldcity.com and
the St. Johns County Visitor and Convention Center. Another good link to events
is the City of St. Augustine’s website and their Concerts in the Plaza website.
These links will give you a short and long view of coming events in
St. Augustine and St. Johns County.

St. Augustine Nightclubs and Entertainment

If you like the nightlife, there are several St. Augustine venues we recommend for
good entertainment and good times. Scarlett O’Hara’s Lounge around the corner
from Flagler College is a popular nitespot in St. Augustine and has been so for
more than 25 years. A few blocks east of Scarlett’s is the very well-known
Tradewinds Lounge on the Bayfront. The Tradewinds has been a fixture in
St. Augustine for more than a half century. Another popular nightclub on the
Bayfront is The White Lion, also a long-established eatery and nightclub. The
San Sebastian Winery is also another popular destination particularly on weekends
where they often feature outdoor music.

On Anastasia Island (across the downtown Bridge of Lions) is one or our favorites
and also a tradition in the oldest city – The Conch House Marina and Resort.
The Conch House has a great over-the-water thatched hut of good size and
is the perfect place to sit with friends, enjoy a drink, and listen to good music.
Also on Anastasia Island on A1A South, St. Augustine Beach, is the popular
Oasis Deck and Restaurant. Panama Hatties is also a St. Augustine Beach/Anastasia
Island favorite.

If you’d like to make a spooky night of your St. Augustine visit, there are some
very good St. Augustine Ghost tours to choose from. Enjoy!

Dining Out in St. Augustine before Stepping Out!

Before stepping out for the night, you may wish to have dinner at one of our great
St. Augustine restaurants. Our favorite dining spots are Gypsy Cab, on
Anastasia Island near the Lighthouse, and Cap’s Seafood Restaurant, on the Intracoastal
Waterway on Vilano Beach.

St. Augustine area Theatre and the Arts

St. Augustine is well known for several excellent theatrical and concert venues. The
Limelight Theatre is a great place to catch the excitement of live theatre. Flagler
College
has an excellent theatre department. Their auditorium not only presents
student productions, but community productions. They also bring in nationally-known
speakers as part of their Flagler Forum series. The EMMA Music Society presents
national and international artists, often featuring them at Flagler College’s auditorium.
First Coast Opera has been in operation for a number of years and showcases a
very talented and experienced cast of actors.

St. Augustine also features its long-running First Friday Art Walk, sponsored by the
St. Augustine Art Galleries. Another interesting step back in history is a visit to
the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum on Anastasia Island. Of course, you
won’t want to miss the splendor of the annual St. Augustine Nights of Lights that
illuminates the city and bayfront every year from November through January.

Just west of St. Augustine, in the city of Palatka, is the highly acclaimed Florida
School of the Arts
whose theatrical productions are second to none.

Jacksonville is short drive for great events

North of St. Augustine is the Alhambra Dinner Theatre in Jacksonville. Other strong
venues in Jacksonville is the Veterans Memorial Arena, Times-Union Performing
Arts Center
, and the Prime Osborn Convention Center. The Florida Theatre is also
a strong concert presenter. The Orange Park Community Theatre has been active
for a number of years and features excellent stage productions. Jacksonville Landing
is a popular destination and features a wide variety of dining and entertainment
on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville. Jacksonville is about 30 minutes north of
St. Augustine.

Daytona is not only NASCAR

Daytona Beach has four excellent venues which feature a variety of art and
entertainment productions. They are: The Ocean Center, Seaside Music Theatre,
The News-Journal Center, and Peabody Auditorium. Daytona’s International
Speedway Drive
has great shopping and dining. Daytona Beach is about 30
minutes south of St. Augustine.

Gainesville is one jumpin’ town. Go Gators!

With a major national university, the University of Florida, Gainesville is always a
great place to visit and take in the culture, art, and entertainment. Major venues
include: The Stephen C. O’Connell Center, the Phillips Center for the Performing
Arts
, and the Hippodrome State Theatre. That said, there are many great night-
clubs and wonderful restaurants as well.
